It is the penultimate major road course endurance event of the season, the 10-hour Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. This year, Olympus and the Oblivion community put 4 teams on the track to vie for a win in this prestigious race. This year, we had not one, but two teams with class wins in the race.
The Olympus team of Matt Loveridge paired with team newcomer Ilya Ratiani, and competed in the Ferrari 296 GT3. It was not much of a contest, with the team having a dominant performance. They lead most of the race and finished with a 2 lap lead over the rest of the GT3 field.
The Oblivion team of Grant Yingling, Chris Stephenson, and Jan Miklas competed in the GTP class, racing the Cadillac V-Series.R GTP. This battle was a bit closer, with the team running in the podium positions for much of the race. They were able to chase down the team in P2 with about 2 hours remaining, making up a 30 second gap. A late problem for the leading team allowed us to inherit the overall lead and the team finished comfortably ahead of the rest of the field, capturing the overall win.
This marks 3 of the last 4 years that an Olympus or Oblivion team has captured victory in Petit Le Mans, an impressive record for any team. The final endurance Special Event will be the 8 Hours of Fuji on 10-12 November.
